I am a native Spanish speaker. The idioms in the book are very common in Spanish speaking countries, with the exception of some of them. I think it is a valuable tool to learn and expand your Spanish. With clear explanations and translations of the English ones. I would rather recommend it.

I love this book

I love this book. Things are well-explained and the author clarifies a lot of things that are not addressed in other books. It may sound condescending at times, but it was written for high school students. Nevertheless, it’s a great book.

Unfortunately, it must be out of print because the price keeps skyrocketing. I got a new hard cover copy for $22.50 in April 2012. As of a year later it was going for around $125.00, and as of August 2013 it was about $250.00 to $500.00 depending on who was selling it; way too expensive for me now. The publisher needs to do a new printing and bring the price back down to a reasonable level. I’m never letting go of my copy.

Inane humour

It is a week imitation of the 1957 Parkinson's Law which humourously addressed a serious problem. It was obvious written for anemic academic colleagues who obviously ignored Parkinson's style and satyrical mathematical approach. It all made for a merry tea party. As far as english humour is concerned, my countryman Mr. Cipolla better read "Trhree men in a boat".The result is a boring pretentious book.

Anuja Chandramouli graduated from Women's Christian College, Chennai, and was the college topper in Abnormal Psychology. She also holds a Master's degree in English. Currently she is studying classical dance and working on her next book. Fantastic read on one of the most loved characters in Indian Mythology - Kamadeva rocks

Kamadeva, The hindu god of desire is brought into our lives with this excellent novel. I don't think i have ever enjoyed reading a novel in this genre as much as Kamadeva. It was truly a fun read with hilarious dialogues and stunning revelations about some popular characters in Hindu mythology. The style of narration also deserves a special mention as it never lets the reader Stagnate on any particular page.
I applaud the author on her research into kamadeva since the facts she reveals in this novel have been unknown to me thus far (I have been reading up on these guys since i was a kid). The nauseatingly pure nature of the devas and the stereotypical portrayal of the asuras have been shattered with this most realistic portrayal of the three worlds. The author whips up a good amount of laughs with her unique contemporary style of writing (I LoL'ed atleast 5 times). My favourite parts of the book are the excellent banter between Kama/Indra and the portrayal of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
To conclude, This is an excellent second book which betters Arjuna in my opinion, Congrats to the author Anuja Chandramouli. All novel lovers irrespective of genre Grab this one, you wont regret it

Unique protagonist

I have received this book from the author through Goodreads in exchange for a free unbiased review.
I was happy to receive Anuja Chandramouli's 'Kamadeva: The God of Desire', seeing that other recent authors have not written about the god of love. The author has undoubtedly put in much research while writing this book. The interactions between the celestial beings, their prurient desires, backstabbing, politics, petty squabbles - everything has been developed well.
It is a good read, but could have been a truly great read, on par with a masterpiece by Ashok K. Banker (incidentally we realize that he has also developed as a writer by reading his earlier thrillers). So what went wrong with Kamadeva? The author has made it too long, with a plethora of errors, present-day slang, wrong usage of highbrow words, etc. She has been well assisted in retaining these bloopers by the publishers Rupa, who have even killed Rabindra Nath's English translations.
So what would I suggest? You have a great and well-researched story which not many have covered till now in recent times. Improve it and republish ASAP before others are inspired by it and create a better version using yours. Do this before thinking of writing/ publishing your next work; this experience of refining will help in your future writing also.

Enjoyed Reading about this lesser known God

In the time of Mythology retellings, most authors are going back to retell us the epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana over and over again and I have to admit, I quite enjoy them. Anuja Chandramouli has previously told us the story of Arjuna, which was a well researched and well narrated story. So, when I was approached to review this book, my first instinct was to accept - afterall, I had already read and enjoyed this aythors work. Secondly, I have never read much about Kamadeva other than the very brief guest appearances in other novels. So, I was quite curious about the subject as well.
Kamadeva - the God of Desire, was born to Lord Brahma. He plays his part in the world of Lords as a friend to Indra, husband to Rati and a tutor to the Apsaras. But because of a preordained curse, he faces the wrath of Lord Shiva, the destroyer. Rati and Kamadeva are then reborn on Earth. Kamadevas destiny unfold in the pages as the readers are taken on a ride. Everything seems to be a part of a much larger plan.
The best part of the book is that Anuja Chandramouli makes her characters very human. Yes, she is telling the story of the Gods, whom we hold with such reverance, yet she humanizes them in such a way that a reader can actually relate to the character and situations. The dialogue delivery in our everyday language adds to the allure of it. The book also discusses some topics that are very relevant in our society. It is very apparent that that the author has put in some quality research time while developing the plot and apllaud the author for that. The language and the narration compliments each other by maintaining a certain balance. The author has a very refined language and it is a pleasure to read her prose.
The only drawback of the book is its pace. While the plot and the language makes up for part of it, I think there were sections in the book that I could do without.
Overall, this book makes for a really interesting read. It will surely attract the Mythology lovers as it portrays a little known character

The Right Stuff

I just had to have a girl as my first child, because I had created her name when I was just a girl myself.
My parents named me Dahlynn, pronounced 'Da-Lin' with the accent on the second syllable. In my family, the girls are named after others in the family—male or female—never using the same name, but a combination of those names. The first part of my name comes from my grandmother DeEtta, and the second half from my uncle's mid­dle name, Lynn. The boys in our family had an easier time, as they were given common names and not expected to keep the tradition going, even if they had daughters.

Having this family tradition handed down to me was a big cross to bear. I started creating names for my future daughter in fourth grade, working on word and name combinations from past generations. Every time I created a new name, I added it to the growing stack of names hidden in my small jewelry box.
Finally I had the perfect name—Lahre, which rhymed with 'Marie.' The 'Lah' came from the 'Dah' in my name, and the 're' from the end of my mother's name, Scharre. I was only in seventh grade when I placed that name in my box.

Fortunately, I waited until I graduated from college and married before I became pregnant at the age of twenty-eight. In all that time I never thought of a name for a boy, only for a girl.

Needless to say, I was excited about the pregnancy, even with the constant nausea and everything that came with it. We decided to go the old-fashioned route—no, not a natural delivery—we decided to not find out the sex of the baby. We wanted to be surprised, and I was so sure it was a girl that there was no reason to find out.

Once I started to really show, it became obvious that I was carrying the baby to the front. 'That's a sign it's a boy,' is all I heard from friends and family, even strangers. No, it can't be a boy! I screamed in my head, while on the outside I smiled and quietly nodded when told I was having a boy.

The nine months went by slowly and they were mostly wonderful, after I got past the nausea. Each and every day I would talk to my little girl, sharing with her my dreams for her, even placing headphones on my stomach and playing all kinds of music. But again, since I was carrying the baby to the front, people tried to tell me I was having a boy. Slowly I started to believe them, and when the time came to go to the hospital, I was torn. We picked out a name for a boy—Christopher—after General H. Norman Schwarzkopf's son. My husband had heard Schwarzkopf's son mentioned in an interview; the year was 1992 and Schwarzkopf was leading our troops in Desert Storm.

The delivery was anything but ordinary. I was two weeks overdue, and after sixteen very hard hours of back labor, with my husband and my amazing seventy-year-old grandmother DeEtta (my namesake) by my side, the doctor decided to do a C-section.

Once prepped in the operating room and with a sheet placed in front of my face so I couldn't watch, the doctors began the procedure. My grandmother was extremely curious as to what the doctors were doing, asking about this and that. My husband was watching, too, and when they pulled my stomach out and set it on top of my chest, he about fainted. The nurse had him sit back down in the chair, which was placed next to my head. I looked up and saw he was white as a ghost.

Finally, the doctor said, 'Here's the baby!' The doctor placed the crying baby up over the sheet so we both could see it, and my husband said, 'Oh, look at the little guy.' A boy? We have a boy? I said to myself. But then the doctor said, 'It's not a boy . . . it's a girl!' My husband had mistaken the large umbilical cord for a 'manly attribute'!

Our amazing son, Shawn, would show up five years later, and again we didn't find out the sex until he was born. I didn't listen when I was told I was going to have a girl the second time; I knew I was having a boy because I grew lots of facial hair! But my daughter Lahre is my special joy, even as she is now facing her teenage years. And guess what? She keeps her stash of names for her future daughter in a little jewelry box.

Gives me warm fuzzies inside

There's nothing like being a first time mommy. This was a really nice book to read in the first months after my daughter was born. I loved reading about other women's experiences as a mom and it reminded me that I am not alone when I was sleep deprived! Great book, I would recommend it for all moms.

I read almost every page!!

This book is amazing! I actually wanted to read every page of my assigned reading and it was very easy to understand. The diagrams are only drawings, but they are simple and realistic. The book is outlined very well and I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Currently designing games in his new home of Los Angeles, CA, Paul is thrilled to be gaining valuable experience as a game designer. He is most proud of his accomplishments as Senior Game Designer/Producer on Team USA’s Pinsanity, a social/mobile game for the US Olympic Team, and for his design work on Disney’s Pixie Hollow (an online virtual world starring Tinkerbell and her fairy friends.) Having graduated as valedictorian from the Master’s of Science in Video Game Design program at Full Sail University, Paul has proven himself to be an exceptional student and a valuable asset to his community. During his time at the University, Paul became the first Master’s Degree candidate to pursue the opportunity to conduct new, independent and academically admissible research with the help of an Internal Review Board. His research into the correlation between sexual identity and video game playing preferences has proved invaluable in designing games for all market segments. Having gotten several credits to his name, Paul hopes to continue designing games while working toward his dream of being the Creative Director of a major title.

Clear and Thorough Piece on a Valuable Topic!

So nice to see this important topic dealt with in such a serious and methodical way. The Game industry is often compared to the movie industry, but the game industry does one thing way better than Hollywood: It listens to its customers. Because of that, you've seen a steady improvement of gay-friendly content in games in recent years. Particularly in my genre of choice, RPGs. I'm glad the author put some focus on the "Fable" series and the "Mass Effect" series. Both have been important examples of the growing awareness of the gay gamer. (Fable 2 has a gay-themed optional quest that actually made me cry -- a first for this long-time gamer.)

I hope the honchos in the development studios that aren't as progressive as Bioware and Lionhead pick up this work and take it seriously.

Pretty well done...

This book had a very interesting and different perspective when it came to game making for the gay community; it was written well with good information, but was still easy to read and understand. The only thing I would suggest is including more games into the reviews so that the reader can get a better understanding. Overall, it was very well done and I look forward to read other things from this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed the perspectives in this book and it opened my eyes to the need for more research in this area. The survey results are extremely interesting and surprising. I would have loved to see some more examples of how well the design advice worked. Well written and a very enjoyable read!
