No more alien life on other planets imagined! :(

I had the original 1979 or 1980 version as a kid, and I ordered this for my son in a fit of nostalgia when I saw a random picture of the book somewhere. Unfortunately, the part of the original edition that truly lit up my imagination as a kid (a path leading to studying aerospace engineering and getting a PhD) -- the hypothetical concept art of what life might look like on other planets -- is absent from the revised 1986 edition. No more ever-stomping Venusians, no more Plutonian zistles. Just some updated pictures of the actual Space Shuttle.

Fond Memories of This book

I remember pouring over this book when I was in elementary school over and over again. This book is what sparked a life long love and fascination of the stars and cosmos itself. My wife and I are having our first child and I was so surprised that I could still get my hands on this book. though it's several years until our boy will be able to understand this book I'm way glad I got it. The book came in good condition with little to no damage apart from some writing on the inside as I think it was a gift as some point to some dudes nephew. What a great buy and almost all the information is still 100% correct (though some info needs to be added I'm sure like dark energy and dark matter).

A must have for your home

A Fantastic book, My parents had purchased me a copy when I was a child and I loved it. After watching the first episode of magic school bus (they explore our solar system) on Netflix my 4 year became fascinated with space so I bought him a used copy. My one regret is that the copy was supposed to be very good and is instead falling apart. I guess when I paid .69 what did I expect. Don't let my bad experience dampen your expectations. It is a great book to explore space with your children.
